"I realized that we take for granted the simple pleasures that bring joy and laughter to other people, such as a nice shower with endless warm water. At the same time, the Bushmen might take for granted their night skies cluttered with stars, their amazing sunsets that melt your heart each time you see them, and the flat nothingness that continues to the very tip of the horizon." -- Megan Keely, age 14.

GLEAN Expedition Application Process
The main requirements for a student to participate on a GLEAN expedition are:
- A sincere desire to conduct research on a chosen topic in a remote region of the world
- A positive and mature attitude
- Evidence that the student has the motivation and skills to do a high quality, complete job on his or her research project
- Recommendation letters, a written essay, application form, and an interview with the student and parent/guardian.
Grades in school and test scores are not part of the process. |
"You form unbelieveably close bonds with the other participants that last far beyond the end of the expedition." -- Liz Bradshaw, age 23, expedition guide
